The tiny hints of color are displayed against a background of boulder ironstone . The shapes and patterns are like an abstract oil painting. This opal is called ‘matrix’, the name coming from the idea of a baby in a womb. In this case, the ‘mother’ is the ironstone. The baby is the opal.
