| How do I photograph my opals for you to value them? |
|
If you have a digital camera linked to your computer, just take a photo of your item against a dark background and a light background. Just plain black and white paper is OK. Use a fluorescent light. If you are photographing a ring, you can make it stand up by using some blue tack or whatever it is called in your country. (The sticky stuff you use to tack paper onto a wall) If you are photographing light colored opal, adjust your camera to a low aperture. If dark opal give it more light. When you have loaded the image into your graphics program, trim away all unnecessary background by cropping the image. Save it as a JPG file, then reduce the size of the image to no more than 500 pixels. You can fiddle with the colors if you know how to do it . Otherwise, just send it as it is and let me know by email if it should be a little lighter or darker. You can also tell me the size of the stone in mm's if possible, or in fractions if not.
