an amazing specimen of Yowah Matrix from the Queensland fields. These stones are true collectors items and are often called picture stones because all sorts of shapes and patterns remind the owner of an image. Yowah ‘nuts’ get there name from the fact that when they are found in the ground, they resemble nuts that have fallen off a tree, but when they are sliced, it is often discovered that there is a kernel of opal. of course, this event is very rare. You can cut or break many thousands of nuts without so much as finding a flash of color. This is what makes them such collectors items.
