The opal in this piece has been split out of the mother ironstone rock. The color in this lovely specimen could of course be cut out and turned into a gemstone but it has been left as is for the purpose of using it as a collector’s piece for opal lovers. Boulder opal is a rare stone found only in the western Queensland opal fields, Australia and is unique to this area in the word. Hence it’s easy to see why they are sought after as pieces to add to collections.
