Crystal Opal 2013

One of a kind collectors opal from old olympic opal field

$30,000.00

This huge chunk of opal could only be described as an amazing collectors item for those who can afford to spend the money. From the old reliable Olympic field in Coober Pedy, it is 100% dark red crystal opal right through. Stones like this unless a new opal field is found, will never be seen again. Contact us for more pictures and carat details as well as comparison sizes. The opal is so large that it could really only be worn as a pendant, or just stored away in a volt or collection as an amazing specimen.

Crystal opal is mainly from Coober Pedy but of course it is also found in most of the other opal fields including Lightning Ridge, Andamooka and the Queensland opal fields. Actually all Australian opal is similar in structure. The various types are categorized by what they are associated with.  If the crystal opal has black potch in the background, it’s black opal. If it has dark brown to black ironstone in the background it is black boulder opal.  If it has darkness within itself it becomes black crystal.

Please note that crystal opal is not easy to photograph. If it has a light background it loses a lot of it’s color. If it’s shown on a black background it can give the illusion that it’s darker than it really is which is the case in some of these shots .  So please feel free to discuss the stone with us before purchase to make sure you understand the color status.

Apologies if there are some details missing in this report.  Actually with so much buying and selling taking place at www.opalmine.com, it’s difficult to keep up with the demand and some information needs to be completed.
