They are really a designers dream because they inspire pictures and shapes that other stones do not. The term matrix is used when the 'mother' ironstone holds the 'baby' the precious opal. The price of Opal, unlike many gemstones is influenced by supply and demand, not by international cartels who agree on price increases.
